چکیده
Desorption electrospray ionization (DESI) mass spectrometry is used for rapid, specific and sensitive detection of trace amounts of the notorious explosive TATP present on ambient surfaces by alkali metal complexation in a simple spray technique.

Detecting Trace Explosives and Formulations Using Laser Electrospray Mass Spectrometry
Mass analysis using laser electrospray mass spectrometry (LEMS) is demonstrated for the detection of trace samples of explosives at atmospheric pressure directly from a substrate. A non-resonant femtosecond duration laser pulse vaporizes native samples at atmospheric pressure for subsequent electrospray ionization and transfer into a mass spectrometer. LEMS was used to detect < 1 µg of 2,3-dime...
متن کاملA colorimetric sensor array for detection of triacetone triperoxide vapor.
Triacetone triperoxide (TATP), one of the most dangerous primary explosives, has emerged as an explosive of choice for terrorists in recent years. Owing to the lack of UV absorbance, fluorescence, or facile ionization, TATP is extremely difficult to detect directly. Techniques that are able to detect generally require expensive instrumentation, need extensive sample preparation, or cannot detec...
متن کاملTrace analysis of peroxide-based explosives.
The first method for quantitative trace analysis of peroxide-based explosives is described. A reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography method with post-column UV irradiation and fluorescence detection for the analysis of triacetone triperoxide (TATP) and hexamethylene triperoxide diamine (HMTD) has been developed. After separation, the analytes are degraded photochemically to hydro...
متن کاملTechnical note.
Conventional explosives 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT), nitroglycerin (NG), and ethylene glycol dinitrate (EGDN) sorbed to hair can be directly detected by an ion mobility spectrometer (IMS) in E-mode (for explosives). Terrorist explosive, triacetone triperoxide (TATP), difficult to detect by IMS in E-mode, was detected in N-mode (for narcotics). Three modes of sample introduction to IMS vapor des...
متن کاملDetecting a peroxide-based explosive via molecular gelation.
A convenient and portable triacetone triperoxide (TATP) sensor was developed utilizing a thiol-to-disulfide oxidation to trigger a solution-to-gel phase transition. Using this method, TATP can be detected visually without any instrumentation.
